Grey Rainwater Raises Concern Amid Singapore's Worsening Haze

Grey rainwater collected after a heavy downpour in Singapore on October 15 has sparked concern among residents, as the country continues to grapple with transboundary haze.

Rain can remove some airborne pollutants as droplets fall, but it does not immediately clear the fine particles that make up haze.
CNA explained that raindrops pick up pollution particles, which can contribute to the discolouration of collected rainwater.

PM Wong also reiterated that Singapore has offered assistance to Indonesia and will continue working with the country and ASEAN partners to address the underlying causes of the haze.
He said the Government would do everything it could to protect Singaporeans, despite having limited control over conditions beyond its borders.
Support measures include distributing N95 or equivalent masks to vulnerable residents and opening air-conditioned haze shelters at community facilities.
The Health Ministry has also activated subsidy schemes since October 12, allowing eligible Singaporeans to receive subsidised treatment for haze-related conditions at participating clinics.
