Two married couples in Johor Bahru, Malaysia have been arrested after videos allegedly showing the assault of an Indonesian domestic helper went viral online. Johor police said the four suspects, were detained at a house in Taman Johor, Skudai, on 14 June 2026.
Preliminary investigations found that the suspects comprised two married couples living in the same residence, with the two women being sisters.
Authorities said the incident is believed to have taken place in July 2025 but only recently surfaced online after videos of the alleged abuse began circulating on social media.
Police believe the case may involve up to three Indonesian domestic helpers and have launched investigations into the alleged assaults. The case remains under investigation.
It has also been reported that the Indonesian Consulate General in JB has placed two Indonesian domestic workers under temporary protection following allegations that they were physically abused by their employers in Johor.
According to the consulate, the case came to light after one of the women filed a report alleging that she and two other Indonesian domestic helpers had been subjected to repeated abuse while employed by the same household.
On social media, a user alleged that the domestic helper had struck the employer's child, with the incident purportedly captured on CCTV and witnessed by the employer.
daya_azlan on social media said "It was reported that the helper had hit the kids of the owners and that it was seen by the owners though the CCTV footage. If it turns out to be true, there are other ways to proceed like making a police report and making reports with the proper channels. The ones getting questioned now is the employer and his wife for hitting the helper badly. What's wrong is wrong, let the authorities handle the investigation"
