Man Gets Edited Into Fake Porn Video, Blackmailed For $8000
A local man, Owen Law, fell victim to a deep fake porn video scam after answering an unknown call from the UK. In a Facebook post made by Ednes Lee, she shared the harrowing experience Owen went through.

Ednes sells gaming credits and mentioned that Owen was a customer of hers. She received a Whatsapp message from an unknown number asking her to warn Owen of the consequences of not paying for a service he allegedly bought. The unknown number later turned out to be a hacker who hacked into Owen’s phone.

The unknown number claimed that Owen “ordered” a girl from him but refused to pay. He also threatened to spread a video of Owen allegedly masturbating while watching a cam girl.
Initially, Ednes had no idea who Owen was because she didn’t save his number. She also mentioned that their mode of communication is via Telegram.
When she was contacted initially, Ednes told the hacker that she does not know Owen and that she will be making a police report against him. The hacker even encouraged her to make the police report.

Out of anger, Ednes then made a post about Owen not paying up for services and the post went viral.
Eventually Owen contacted her and explained the whole situation. He said that his mistake was picking up a call from a random number while half asleep.
He sent her screenshots of his communication with the hacker where he was blackmailed if he refused to pay $8000 to them.
Ednes apologized to Owen. She took her post down after understanding what Owen went through and told him not to answer calls from random numbers next time. Owen shared that another one of his friends went through the same thing.
Netizens mentioned that it is impossible for one to be hacked from a phone call unless it is made from a third party app.
One mentioned the danger and the reality of deep fakes today.
Well, it is a plausible excuse for those who are crazy enough to record themselves in compromising situations.
Let this be a lesson for those who still pick up calls from random numbers.
Scammers are getting creative lately. Remember not to click on any suspicious links or answer calls from unknown numbers.
Reporter’s Opinions: As far as I know, it is impossible for your phone to be hacked just by a call. Unless the hackers are using a tracking program and you were on the call with them for more than 3 minutes. Or it’s made on a third party app that’s not secure. Even then it’s still a far fetched notion because even tracking programs aren’t that sophisticated for them to use it and gather your data.
But just be wary. Scammers will find ways to make money from the data we carry around in our phones.
