Netizens Slam Family After Missing Singaporean Says She Left Due to Emotional Distress

The 20-year-old Singaporean woman, Siti Aishah Siregar, who was reported missing after travelling to Cambodia has been found safe, with authorities saying she had deliberately cut off contact with her family due to emotional distress.

Following the revelation, some netizens questioned the family dynamics, speculating that Aishah may have been raised in a particularly strict household.

According to Cambodian authorities, Aishah was located in Phnom Penh following a request for assistance from the SPF. Investigations found no evidence of criminal activity, including kidnapping or unlawful detention.

Aishah reportedly told Cambodian police that she had travelled to Cambodia because she was experiencing emotional distress and had switched off her phone to avoid being contacted by her family.

After arriving, she became anxious about her decision and eventually approached the Cambodian authorities for help after learning she had been reported missing.

Prior to her disappearance, Aishah's father had appealed on social media

for public assistance, saying the family had lost contact with her after she travelled to Phnom Penh on 28 July 2026. The appeal was widely shared online.

According to a 2026 CNA report, social service agencies say that most missing youth cases are not linked to crime, but rather to problems at home or emotional struggles.

Agencies say some young people leave after feeling overwhelmed by strained family relationships, personal struggles or mental health challenges, with support efforts often focusing on resolving these underlying issues.
