Singer Kira Peace Draws Criticism for Bus Performance After New Noise Rules

Singapore-based New Zealand singer-songwriter Kira Peace has drawn criticism after posting a video of herself singing and playing the guitar while walking along the aisle of a public bus.

The 20-year-old is known for performing her original songs for strangers in public spaces and has been singing on Singapore buses since March 2025.

In the latest clip, she appeared to question the new rule against loud music, writing: "It doesn't apply to me right?!! Please say yes."

Peace has previously faced criticism over similar performances.

In May, an SMRT bus captain stopped one of her performances and reminded her that she could only sing while seated.

From Sept 23, playing loud audio or causing a nuisance or annoyance on public buses is an offence carrying a maximum fine of $500.

The regulations also cover placing feet on seats, littering, and eating or drinking onboard.

Authorised personnel, including ticket inspectors and bus interchange staff, may issue offence notices, while bus captains can instruct disruptive passengers to stop or alight.
