"Sorry For Bringing Money To Your Country" Italian Group Apologises After Insulting Thai Passenger

The Italian Embassy in in Bangkok Bangkok has released a video showing student representatives apologising to the Thai public following a BTS Skytrain incident involving a group of Italian students that sparked widespread backlash online.

In the video, the student representatives offered a sincere apology for their behaviour, describing it as disrespectful and expressing hope that the Thai public would accept their apology.

The embassy also confirmed that the students involved would return to Italy.

Travelling Fox Estate INPSieme, the agency organising the trip for the students, also issued a public apology, saying the students' behaviour did not reflect the values it had promoted over the years.

While the agency said the students' "momentary excitement" in a foreign country may have contributed to their actions, it stressed that their youth was "no excuse" for behaving disrespectfully in public.

The incident took place on 18 July 2026 aboard a Silom Line train heading towards Sala Daeng station. According to the passenger who recorded the video, she had politely asked the group to lower their voices after they disrupted fellow commuters.

Instead of complying, the students allegedly laughed, filmed her on their mobile phones and shouted vulgar insults at her and her family.

The situation escalated when a woman in the group allegedly told the passenger, "Sorry for bringing money to your country"

In response, the Thai woman involved in the confrontation with the group of Italian students filed a police complaint, saying she hopes the case will serve as a lesson for foreign visitors to respect local customs.

Speaking to local media, the woman said she decided to file a complaint because she believed the students' behaviour had crossed the line. She added that the case was not about seeking compensation, but about ensuring accountability and preventing similar incidents in future.
