A toddler believed to be below two years old was stopped just in time after running unattended towards a main road near Punggol Coast on Saturday (Aug 15)
The incident was shared on TikTok by Hyfa Sayf, who was also the driver of the vehicle.
He said he immediately stopped his car, got out and ran towards the child, while also trying to prevent a vehicle behind him from overtaking.
According to Hyfa, the toddler was approaching the main road, where the right side was a blind spot, putting the child at risk of being hit by an oncoming vehicle.
Hyfa later clarified that his wife, who was in the car with him, initially questioned why he suddenly stopped and got out.
He explained that she was concerned about the car behind them and whether its driver would be able to stop in time. He stressed that she was not questioning his decision to help the child.
When the child's parent eventually appeared, Hyfa claimed the parent apologised and said the child had "run very fast", but did not thank him for intervening.
He added that the parent appeared to have thought the child had simply run to the other side, when the toddler had actually headed towards the road.
