US Truckers' Strike Claims Circulate Online Amid Rising Diesel Prices

Claims that US truck drivers are planning to go on strike from 1 Oct 2026 have circulated on social media, with posts alleging that the action is in response to rising diesel prices.

The claims have also warned of potential food and supply shortages if truckers stop working.

However, there is currently no evidence of an organised nationwide trucker strike planned for 1 Oct.

The rumour appears to have gained traction after a video posted on social media on 15 Sep claimed that truck drivers had agreed to stop working and park their vehicles until fuel prices fell.

The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association, which represents more than 150,000 members in the US and Canada, said it was not aware of any planned strike.

The rumours come as diesel prices in the United Sta United States hit record highs.

The average US diesel price rose to US$6.29 (S$8.03) per gallon for the week ending Sept 14, up 68% from US$3.74 (S$4.78) a year earlier, according to data from the US Energy Information Administration.

The price increases come amid disruptions to global fuel supplies linked to conflicts involving Iran and Ukraine.

Industry analysts have also warned that higher diesel costs could place further pressure on trucking companies, particularly smaller operators that pay for fuel upfront.
