16-Year-Old Student Livestreams Attack on Teacher at Sarawak School

A 16-year-old male student was arrested after allegedly attacking a female teacher with a sharp weapon at Tunku Putra-HELP International School in Kuching, Sarawak, on October 21.
Police have since confirmed that the student livestreamed the incident on Facebook, with footage circulating widely on social media.
The student allegedly strapped a phone to his forehead and recorded himself preparing in a school toilet before approaching a classroom with an axe-like object.
The 12-minute recording later turned dark amid screams, while separate CCTV footage showed the teacher and another student restraining him.
Police received an emergency call at 8.03am reporting that the student had brought firecrackers to school and injured the teacher.
The school said the incident occurred when the teacher attempted to confiscate a sharp object.
She sustained cuts to her hand and was taken to hospital, while other students were dismissed early.
Police recovered a penknife and small axe, although the exact weapon used remains unclear.
The student was subsequently released on police bail, with investigations ongoing. His motive has not been confirmed.
In its latest update, the school confirmed that the teacher did not sustain serious injuries and is recovering well. The student is no longer enrolled at the school, while classes resumed on October 22 following clearance from authorities.
The school has also deployed three auxiliary police officers, introduced security checks at its entrance and arranged counselling support for affected students.
The incident follows several serious school violence cases in Malaysia, including an attempted murder case involving a 15-year-old student in Selangor in July and fatal incidents involving students in Negeri Sembilan and Johor in September and October.
Separately, Malaysia recorded 5,681 reported school bullying cases between January and August 2026, according to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
However, the figure covers various forms of bullying and does not specifically represent armed attacks.
