Cardiff City Defender Perry Ng Becomes Singaporean, Could Make Lions Debut At 2027 Asian Cup

Liverpool-born Cardiff City defender Perry Ng has received Singapore citizenship, putting him in line to represent the Lions at the 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia.

The 30-year-old was granted citizenship in September under the Foreign Sports Talent scheme.

Ng's late paternal grandfather was born in Singapore, although he did not qualify for citizenship by descent as Singapore's rules require at least one parent to have been born in Singapore or to be a Singapore citizen by registration.

Ng has long expressed his desire to play for Singapore and has made frequent visits to the country, including training with the national team and taking part in community activities.

He will not feature for the Lions in the ongoing FIFA ASEAN Cup as the squad list has already been finalised.

However, he could make his international debut during the November window, when Singapore are scheduled to face Paraguay and five-time world champions Brazil at the National Stadium.

Ng joined the Crewe Alexandra academy at five and went on to play for the club's senior side before joining Cardiff City in 2021. He was named Cardiff's Player of the Year in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons.
