Indonesians Urge Singaporeans to Confront Governor Amid Haze Crisis

Indonesian social media users have urged Singaporeans to confront East Kalimantan Governor Rudy Mas'ud after a photograph circulated showing him and his wife reportedly dining at Marina Bay Sands during Singapore's Formula 1 weekend.
His presence drew criticism as communities back home faced forest fires and choking haze.

Amid the online criticism, lawyers have cautioned against acting on calls for confrontation, warning that doing so could amount to harassment.
The backlash comes as fires continue to disrupt daily life in East Kalimantan. In Balikpapan, schools shortened lessons and adjusted starting times amid deteriorating air quality.
Authorities recorded 127 land fires affecting approximately 81 hectares in the city between January and October 12.
The wider Indonesian fire crisis has also spread haze across neighbouring countries, including Singapore and Malaysia.
However, East Kalimantan officials denied that Rudy's trip was for a holiday or to watch F1.
Provincial communications chief Ririn Sari Dewi said he underwent a routine medical check-up at Mount Elizabeth Hospital and paid for his travel and accommodation personally.
His presence coincided with the October 9-11 race weekend, but attendance at the event has not been established.
Officials said the circulating photograph was taken during breakfast on Sunday, October 11.
Rudy returned to Indonesia and was back in Balikpapan by Monday, October 12, to resume government duties.
