A 15-year-old girl has been charged after allegedly stabbing her schoolmate at a secondary school in Banting, Selangor, on Monday (July 6), leaving the victim with 14 stab wounds in an attack that has renewed concerns over school safety and youth mental health.
The attack took place at about 9.30am, when the suspect allegedly entered the school armed with a knife and attacked another 15-year-old girl. Teachers managed to restrain her before police arrived and arrested her.
The victim was rushed to hospital and remains in stable condition after suffering multiple stab wounds, including injuries to her back, face and a punctured lung.
During remand proceedings on Tuesday, the prosecution told the court that investigators recovered handwritten notes allegedly detailing plans for the attack.
Defence lawyers said the teenager is autistic, has been receiving treatment for mental health issues and had not attended school for several months.
They also claimed she had been bullied, although police have not confirmed whether bullying was linked to the incident.
Investigations are ongoing.
The incident comes less than a year after another fatal school stabbing in Selangor, where a 16-year-old student was killed by a 14-year-old schoolmate in October 2025.
While such attacks remain rare in Malaysia, the two cases have intensified calls for stronger school security measures and greater mental health support for students.
