Chaotic' Or Entertaining? China Dance Troupe's Singapore Performance Sparks Debate Online

A dance troupe from China has gone viral after a video of its energetic performance inside a Chinatown restaurant in Singapore and on the streets drew hundreds of thousands of views online.
Some netizens welcomed the performance, saying it made Singapore more "interesting", while others praised the troupe's energetic and skilful dance moves.
The videos, uploaded to TikTok, show five members of the Fulan Dance Troupe (translated) performing inside Gunkee Claypot in Nyonya-inspired outfits before taking their routine outdoors.
The dancers performed a series of kicks, spins and coordinated movements as they made their way across the street, while diners and passers-by watched and filmed the performance.
The Fulan Dance Troupe, a dance group from Changsha, China, has gained a following online, with several of its previous performance videos garnering hundreds of thousands of views.
There have been several examples of businesses in Singapore using performances and other unconventional marketing tactics to attract attention and generate buzz.
One of them is the Thai Hot Guys, a group of muscular waiters from Bangkok restaurant Staneemeehoi who gained viral attention online. They performed at Mr Mookata in Bugis in August 2023 as part of a promotional appearance.
