Netizens have questioned perceived uneven coverage of eight-month-old Trevor Neo Yu Hin's fatal abuse, saying reports they encountered showed his father's photograph but not his mother's.

Comments on Instagram and Facebook called for both parents to be pictured, with some describing the difference as a gender based.

Chloe Gan Ci Xuan, 23, received 15 years and three months' jail, while Neo Jia Ming, 27, was sentenced to 16 years in Singapore's High Court on October 21.

Gan admitted causing Trevor's death, while Neo admitted allowing it. Both also pleaded guilty to child ill-treatment offences, and Neo separately admitted assaulting Gan.

On September 1, 2024, Gan repeatedly smothered Trevor before leaving him face down in his cot. Neo was nearby playing a mobile game and failed to intervene.

Trevor was pronounced dead shortly after midnight on September 2, although the final autopsy could not establish a definitive cause of death.
