Customers & Yishun Drink Stall Owner Clash Over Bringing Own Water Bottle

A dispute over a personal water bottle escalated into a heated confrontation between a family and a drinks stall owner at a Yishun coffee shop on 30 Aug 2026.

According to a video of the incident, the drinks stall owner told the family that outside food and drinks were not allowed at the coffee shop, including personal water bottles. The rule was reportedly stated on a banner displayed at the coffee shop.

The family's son, who identified himself as Brandon, later shared his side of the incident on Instagram.

He said his family had visited the coffee shop for dinner and that his father had placed a water bottle on their table while he went to the toilet.

Brandon claimed the stall owner subsequently told his father that the bottle could not be placed on the table and had to be kept on a chair instead.

He said the situation escalated after the owner allegedly took the family's water bottle and threw it onto the pathway outside the coffee shop. According to Brandon, this happened twice, with his father and mother retrieving the bottle each time.

He also alleged that the owner challenged his father to fight in the back alley, although his father refused and said any dispute should be addressed openly.

Brandon acknowledged that his father had used "some harsh words" during the confrontation.

He said both sides had recordings of the incident but that he would not release his footage as the matter was under police investigation.

There have been previous reports of Singapore coffee shops and F&B outlets charging customers for plain drinking water.

In 2023, Bugis coffee shop 3838 Eating Place reportedly prohibited customers from bringing outside food and drinks, including their own water bottles.

Customers could instead purchase hot water for $0.50 or iced water for $0.80.
