Netizens React To Lev Panfilov's Acquittal, Many Say Reputation Already 'Ruined'

Former Wah!Banana actor Lev Panfilov has been acquitted of all charges after the Court of Appeal overturned his convictions for rape, sexual assault and molestation.

The acquittal has sparked discussion online, with many netizens arguing that his reputation may have been irreparably damaged despite the court's decision.

Some also suggested that Panfilov consider taking legal action over the allegations.

In delivering the judgment on 2 Sep 2026, Justice Sushil Nair said several inconsistencies in the complainant's testimony gave rise to reasonable doubt in the prosecution's case.

The court also raised doubts over the only physical evidence presented by the prosecution - a pair of blood-stained underwear.

The underwear was found in the complainant's laundry basket six days after the incident, during which she had her period. The court said it could not be established whether the blood was related to the alleged assault.

The court also found inconsistencies between the complainant's account to a doctor and her testimony in court, including whether she had screamed during the alleged assault.

Justice Nair said the complainant's evidence fell short of the "unusually convincing" standard required for a conviction in a case that largely depended on the accounts of the two parties.

In 2025, Panfilov was sentenced to 111/2 years' jail and 12 strokes of the cane after being convicted of four charges relating to an encounter with a Tinder date at his condominium on 12 Jan 2021 The caning had not been carried out.

Panfilov admitted to the sexual acts but maintained that they were consensual.
