Threads User Alleges Woman Used Al to Fabricate Relationship, Pregnancy With Her Brother

A social media news graphic featuring screenshots of a Threads post and several photos of a young man and woman. The headline reads: “Threads User Alleges Woman Used AI to Fabricate Relationship, Pregnancy With Her Brother.” The image includes a post claiming AI-generated photos were used to create a false story about a romantic relationship and pregnancy. The graphic is labeled “Viral” and features Plan B branding.

A social media user on Threads has alleged that her family was targeted by an individual who, over several years, falsely claimed to be in a relationship with her brother despite having little to no personal connection with him.

According to the post, the woman had allegedly shared a series of claims on her social media accounts, including that she had been in a relationship with the user's brother since 2011, was engaged to him, and was expecting his child.

The user further alleged that the woman used artificial intelligence (AI) tools to create images purporting to show the relationship, as well as a pregnancy and child, despite her brother allegedly having no relationship with her.

The user said her family became aware of the situation after her brother-in-law encountered the woman while making a delivery. The woman allegedly identified herself as a friend of the family and claimed to know several relatives, prompting confusion among family members who said they did not know her.

The user said the incident had left her family "shocked" and "upset", alleging that AI had been used to create a false narrative involving her brother. She added that the family had reported the matter to the authorities, but chose to share their experience publicly to raise awareness about the potential misuse of AI-generated content.

In the comments section, many netizens expressed support for the user, with some sharing their own experiences of similar incidents.

There have been several documented cases where people used AI-generated images, videos, or identities to fabricate major aspects of their lives.

In 2025, Chinese authorities reported that a man in Shanghai was scammed out of nearly US$28,000 (S$36,111) by fraudsters who created an entirely fictional AI-generated girlfriend, complete with realistic photos, videos, identification documents and personal stories. The victim believed he was in a genuine relationship with a real person.

In 2025, Anne Menden, a German actress, publicly condemned AI-generated images that falsely portrayed her as pregnant. She condemned the manipulation as disrespectful and a violation of her personal rights.
